Up until now, I have been too scared to check my credit reports, but as I became debt free in June last year, I decided this week (actually I was nagged to a frazzle by my daughter) to see what it was!
Thank goodness I did and how I wish I had done so many years ago while I was in debt!

Experian showed a default from Aktiv Capital/1st National Tricity which I couldn't figure out, as they were the first debtor to be cleared back in 2008.

So I registered with Noddle today, and lo and behold I was able to see financial records for Aktiv/1st Nat right the way back, and to my horror, there is an amount of £42 which was defaulted back to 2009 and is still showing as outstanding.

The lovely people at Stepchange gave me all the necessary details regarding payment dates and account numbers, and a telephone number for Aktiv. I phoned them and they too were at a loss as to why the £42 was put on my account a year after it was settled. Clearly an administrative error, about which no-one had ever contacted me. They are going to mark the account as paid, and ensure that the necessary agencies are advised and send me a letter confirming this and apologising!!

Hopefully this will improve my credit rating.

Oh how I DO wish I'd checked sooner!!!
I incurred the debt, I repaid the debt - all of it!:o DMP started with CCCS 20/07/2007 Was £32,735. Paid off all my creditors (June 2013) 7 yrs ahead of original DFD.
PPI claims won against Barclays x 2/ Egg x 1/ LV x . PPI claims rejected and then upheld Barclays/Egg x 2

  • Your credit worthiness will improve once the Default has been removed from your credit file and not until.

  • Can I ask what Noddle is?

I have a default showing on my file which shouldn't be there that's all
Aiming towards a better future ~ debt free to of course

    Current Debt (January 14):

It's a subsidiary of call credit CRA.

Noddle is a site that allows you to sign up and check your CallCredit credit file for free.

A useful tool for keeping an eye on credit file, albeit only CallCredit - Experian and the other one who's name escapes me have signup trials, monthly subscriptions or statutory 2quid reports.

To comment on the 2nd part of your post, you need to contact the creditor and find out why there is a default - as I did today - and sort it out.

I have received the promised letter (via email) already (fast work, Aktiv Kapital, well done!) confirming that they "were pleased to receive your payment on 17th March 2009 so thank you." :rotfl:

    They go on to state
"We can now advise that your account has reached paid in full status."
"If your account is registered with the Credit Bureau, this will now be updated to show zero balance."

So, well worth contacting your creditor and sorting out the default you say shouldn't be on your record.

The default is from some years ago and to be honest I don't have the account details any more so wouldn't know where to begin :(
