    If you want pretty Turkish resort then I vote for Dalyan. Only drawback is that beach is boat ride or bus ride away but it is a delightful place. Mud baths great fun! Short ride from Dalaman airport. Google images for a view. This is the kind of place where the locals will soon be chatting with you (and I don't mean hassling!}

  • I highly recommend Olu Deniz, of which is in the Fethiye region of Turkey. There is so many things to do within the area that you will never get bored.

The blue lagoon is the most pictured beach in Europe, it really is a beautiful beach. The paragliding is breathtaking, the Jeep Safari of where you get to visit cleopatra, trout farm, gorge etc is amazing. The people here seem to be a lot more friendly than anywhere else in Turkey. The other village just up the road called Hisaronu is also a great place for couples and familys, Hisaronu translated to into English means 'English Village', they just love the brits in this area.
  • Def fly into Dalaman and Olu Deniz is lovely. There is also the big Tuesday market in Fethiye and the Monday market in Hisaronu you can go to. The kids are far too young for paragliding! A lot of people like Hisaronu and I believe there are some nice child friendly hotels there.

Sush, don't mention Kalkan, its a secret :)

Plus its too far from Dalaman for the OP and theres no good beach

I too would look at Dalyan, Fethiye or Olu Deniz

Staying in Fethiye, you can catch the bus to Dalyan and the dolmus up to Hisaranou and to Olu Deniz. Traveling about is easy and cheap

    Hisaronou gets my vote

We will be there first week in June and then back in late August

Even through the tunnel its around an hour away from the aiport

The main beach at Olu Deniz is very stony before you get in the sea, best time is when the locals go around 18:00. Never used the private beach so cannot comment.

Weather in May can be anything, one year we had the third week in May and it rained every day. It can also get cold on an evening

    Go and enjoy

This is from my booking with Thomson to Turkey.

You'll need a tourist visa to travel to Turkey. You can apply for a visa online at evisa gov tr before you go. It costs US$20, payable by VISA/Mastercard debit or credit card only. Alternatively you can pay £10 in cash with a new note when you arrive. Please note that after 10th April 2014 you will not be able to buy a visa on arrival. We recommend you visit the FCO website for the most up-to-date information - gov uk foreign travel advice turkey, not allowed to post links sorry.

  • I am also going to turkey for the 1st time also in august - Kusadasi in the more westerly part of the turkish resorts was coming in with very good prices, flight times and transfer times.

    My research found

Lots of really nice looking 4 & 5* family hotels on this side. If you can fly to Izmir then transfer times are only about 50mins to a lot of the hotels. Or you can fly to bodrum and go to other resorts like altunkum or Didim. Which will take longer to get to I suppose. They all seemed pretty decent.

When I 1st started out I asked a similar question...you do have to do your research. As for me....well in the end I chose Marmaris as it more suited what we want.....(i think :))

In the middle of everything with other resorts fairly close by.

I'd agree. Kalkan is the most horrible place. I've been every year for 20 years and it gets worse every time I go!:rotfl:

Seriously, Kalkan is a much more adult resort and the transfer is quite long for young children.

I'd definitely add my vote for Dalyan. You'll be there in no time from Dalaman airport.

Isuzu beach is lovely and sandy and only a short minibus ride from the town. The best thing is to go there in the morning before any day trippers arrive and then back to your accommodation for lunch. Children can then play in the pool in the afternoon instead.

    I like the Fethiye area.
Fethiye is a relaxed, vibrant and friendly working town, that seems (imo) to allow tourism to blend in seamlessly.
It's only an hour from Dalaman Airport.
Lovely marina, loads of waterfront places to eat, plenty of history (see link below).
As has already been posted, using Fethiye as a hub it's easy to get around to the 'spokes', like Hisaranou, Olu Deniz, Calis Beach, Gocek, Uzumlu, by inexpensive dolmus.
