They were always more interested in acquiring the patents owned my Motorola than the name or phone producing aspect of the company.
Google are better off sticking with software development and leaving phone production to others.0 -
It's been a good week for Lenovo - they managed to buy IBM's server business at a knock-down price as well. They've done well with IBM's old PC business, it'll be interesting to see what happens to Motorola. As I understand it Lenovo sells a lot of smartphones already, but their range is very dull, which is more or less how things were for the company's PC business pre-ThinkPad.0

The patents are apparently going to Lenovo as well, apparently Google did have long term plans for Motorola so this sale was not the plan from the outset. Arstechnica believe it's part of a deal with Samsung as there's concerns that Samsung are intending to break away from Google as they currently have a large portion of the Android market.

I assumed it was because it wasn't working out, obviously Motorola wouldn't change overnight but I fully expected to see Motorola produced Nexus devices by now. However there's not even been a hint of that at all, it certainly makes sense for Lenovo as they have been struggling to get any presence in the mobile market so this will probably be the boost they need.
