Before booking easyJet or Ryanair, do a dummy booking to work out the total cost including all add ons including luggage and seat selection, if they want those.
Look up reviews of the hotel on trip advisor and booking.com to see what others say about it.
They'll need a travel insurance policy each and EHIC card.
Scan a copy of your passport into your computer and e mail a copy of it to your own web based internet e mail account such as hotmail, yahoo etc, same with insurance documents and the like.
Have two methods of getting cash in case one fails.
Also look at other places such as Magaluf and San Antonio.
They can get these cards free of charge from the NHS website, though there are unscrupulous sites that charge :mad:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Athens I thought - was amazing!! Only spent a long weekend thier, but managed to fit loads in. One thing I would say to do is get the Tram to all the way to Metaxa Beach...great spot for people watching - all the beaches along that tram line are beautiful!! Some are private and you have to pay a few euros for the priviledge. Can also enjoy a lovely lunch at one of the many many eatieries down thier. Thier is also a shopping mall - can't remember the name though.
Usual things like Acropolis is a site so beautiful you have to be thier to imagine this huge monument. Can do the Bus Tour which I found was just OK.
Went through the Omonia Area...did look a little seedy but nothing major. I went with my partner but was walking around on my own alot - I went glyfada on my own too - so I'm basically saying thiers no hassle or anything.
One of the trains stations (Monastrakei Metro) has actually built around a historical artifact....amazing. go onto http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g189400-i194-Athens_Attica.html - Trip Advisor Athens forum...this was what I used to ask all my questions and help with my planning....he will NOT regret going to Athens - its a very unique place!!0 -

I have to say, I traveled from Patra via Athens and on to Istanbul and found Greece to be ridiculously expensive. Athens was certainly the most expensive part, but inflation was crazy. That was in 2012, has it calmed down now? I ask because I would love to go back.0 -
I don't know if things have changed recently, but I was in Athens over the summer and a lot of places only accepted cash - if your son or his mates are planning on using credit cards to fund the trip then they may run into difficulties (or end up paying high cash advance fees if they have to use the cc to take cash out of a cashpoint).Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
