Cost of removing load bearing wall??

Hi, we have a 5m long wall (that is solid) that we want to remove. It's load bearing (it holds up the same wall upstairs) so we'll need a support. Has anyone got an idea of what this should roughly cost?

It will all depend on what size steels your structural engineer specifies. On top of the actual work you've got his fees and building regs to add.

Do you intend to do it in one span?
Is it an external or internal wall?
What are your joist sizes on the first floor?
What's your ground floor constructed from?

It matters a lot because you will want to lose the steel somewhere.

Mark is right. There are too many variables. You will need to get a structural engineer to work out the loadings. That will determine the size of steel. Also be aware, depending on the span and the loading, some some engineers require steel to be set vertically at the end of the span and set into a concrete foundation pad. Do not underestimate the cost of this. You then need wall removal, making good, resiting of radiators, resiting of switches and sockets & associated rerunning of cables. Then decorating and floor coverings.

Your engineers fees could easily be £500 and building regs the same.
