Re Education

Hi All

Won my ESA appeal in December and got place into a support group for the next 24 months, DWP paid what they owed in back dated money... then I got a letter to attend a work focused interview.
I was asked when I am able, would I be returning to my last profession... due to the changes within that industry and the risks of damaging my back further the risks where to great....

So I was pointed in the direction of education, which I have no issue with....I could volunteer a few hours a week, could even work,up to 16hrs & to £100 per week.... good why of finding out how much my can and cant take......the advisor told me she wouldn't need to see me for 6 months...Ok that's all well and good, so we asked the local college to send some information which none of it clearly indicates what courses I can do and who's going to be paying for it... anyone here point me in the correct direction

Look at courses that are level 1 or 2. They'll usually state the regular price and the concession price. They have to be under 16 hours a week. Also, I think it has to be something you don't already have up to that level. So e.g. you have a GCSE in English then you wouldn't get funded for a level 2 English course.

You'll need recent proof of your benefit and ID to enroll and get the concessionary rate.

Unfortunately many education authorities only offer concessions on course fees for those in receipt of either job seekers allowance or the working related activity group of employment support allowance, so those in the support group are not offered concessions. Reason being, they are targetting the education at those who may be helped into work soon.

Note: if you are in the support group, any advisory appointments with the JCP are voluntary. You can attend if you want to, but don't need to.
