There's a lot of negative answers here. For the £1300 savings, you could drive to the Netherlands, pick it up yourself, inspect it carefully for damage, and then drive all the way back again.

Unless ops allowed to see it in action i'm not sure driving to the Netherlands to visually inspect an electrical appliance will do much good.

    Hi All,
It seems all reply shave just expanded my post! ;). All of the above is my point!

We live in a single market? So imagine it us a Hoover washing machine ( it is a large manufacturer)

If it was £1300 less to buy it from the EU and you were there anyway to pick up what is stopping you?.

My question is around warranty. If there is an issue who is obliged to fix it? Surely my warranty is with the manufacturer? Regardless of where it is purchased?

I wish to know about my RIGHTS Surely buying it from the eu should be the same as buying from Newcastle?? ( more than twice the distance from me)

Your rights are with whoever you bought from, NOT the manufacturer.

You can buy it over there but the legal responsibility for problems is the retailer. Someone once wrote on here in a thread where someone was having a problem with faulty goods (possibly an eBay seller) and the seller wasn't helping as if the buyer should swallow some of the cost. This person wrote that retailer should factor in the price of what they may have to do with their legal obligations into the goods they sell so there can be no surprise or issue.

In the UK we have higher consumer protection than what the EU requires us to do so. You could look at it this way some of the higher cost could just be where they've factored in this.

If you buy it from the Netherlands you will not have the Sale of Goods act on your side as the company isn't based in the UK. ?You'd have to look up EU consumer law instead to see how you're protected.

Did you post to state this or to ask people's opinions?

We do live in a single market. The EU has various consumer protection laws on distance selling and faulty goods. The UK rules, particularly in relation to faulty goods, are probably going to be much better than what the EU requires.

The reall issues aret he practical ones of dealing with foreign people and potentially having to send items abroad for repair or not having peopl ein the UK that can fix it.

The answer to your question is simple.

If you buy from the Netherlands then you have rights against the retailer - most likely they will be Netherlands consumer rights which may or may not be as good as the UK and should meet EU minimum standards

The manufacturers warranty will obviously will be with the manufacturer.

I wouldnt assume that an international company will offer a worldwide warranty though - i bought an HTC mobile from the USA and ahd to send it to the USA to be fixed as the UK HTC would not touch it.

in this case it soundsl ike the warranty is only ever going to be offered from netherlands if they do not have a UK prescence.

EC consumer law is the same across the EC, it has to be inforced in the country of purchase (using that countries langauge).
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

If it is a |Gas oven you are looking to buy, just be aware that at there are a lot of different types of Gas used in Europe.

I used to deal with a Dutch fire co. They dealt with 14 different types of gas. I had to specify which type of gas was being used ( eg British NG, British LPG, Spanish NG etc ) This oven Manufacturer may not offer this service, it may only be done by the UK supplier.

Another Fire Manufacturer I deal with , sells to the IOM. Up until a few years ago, they were still using Town Gas. The supplier who was the sole distributor of gas fires in the IOM used to convert all the fires prior to being sold.

The Dutch Co I used to deal with, also supplied a 3 year warranty to UK bought product, 12 months everywhere else in Europe.

Really do your homework first before buying, you may end up with a useless piece of metal. Also User instructions I have seen of Dutch product are not easy to follow, the translations are awful !
