Missing an Android tablet...what to buy.

Hi. I currently have the amazing iPad mini with Retina display but i'm kinda missing an Android tablet.

Had the 2013 Nexus 7 but found the screen too small. Tried the Tesco Hudl but again screen is small for a 7" and overall OS and performance was slow and buggy even after a factory reset.

I'm looking for an Android tablet with screen bigger than a 7-incher.

At the moment im choosing between the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the LG G-pad 8.3.

I also have this "itch" that some games are better with a physical controller like that of the 3DS or the Vita but with a lack of an app store (or apps for that matter) and expensive games for the said both systems are kinda putting me off e.g. FIFA 14. iOS & Android £2.99-£4.99 vs £20-£30 with a handheld console.

Any comments or advice please?

Thanks.

Why not give the Pipo M7 Pro or the FNF Ifive X2 a go?

This is mine and I'm well satisfied http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/08/galaxy-tab-3-8-0-review/ at the time (Christmas) Curry's were the cheapest at £179 I think.

I just bought an Hannspree 10.1 tab from ASDA - price, with discount using online voucher was £109
    (Hannspree HANNSpad SN1AT71W - tablet - Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) - 16 GB - 10.1" Price: £119.00)
The screen was very good but I found it way too sluggish to work with so took it back for a refund.
This tab's based on the A9 quad core processor but still its slow. Youtube seemed to work ok though.
btw avoid eBuyer, they are a nightmare to return anything to - due to this I can't use them again. Amazon with its third party sales also have returns issues.

I returned a tablet to Ebuyer 6 months after purchase and they gave me a full refund immediately.

I've been looking at 'Cube'. They sell direct from their factory.
They also us quadcore CPUs and also use the same 'Retina' display as the iPad.

Btw, if it is speed you are after, then the Galaxy Note is the fastest tablet out there by far (according to a recetn Which test).

I would stick to something that is well-known and current meaning released in the past 6 months or so. This is important to me especially with software updates and stuff.

As someone who has owned several tablets in the past 4 years (HTC Flyer, Galaxy Tab 1, Tesco Hudl, old & new Nexus 7, iPad 2, Acer Iconia B1, old Kindle Fire HD, iPad mini) i can say i'm pretty much experienced when it comes to prices, specs...basically what i really need on a tablet.

At the moment i have the iPad mini with Retina display. What's amazing about the device is the size seems just about right for reading, viewing and watching movies, amazing build quality, you have the App store, speakers are just about average loudness and the simplicity of the OS. But i prefer Android OS more as i have an Android phone and i feel i can do more and i feel "not constrained" to the overall ecosystem and OS that is Apple's.

My current choice of screen size is at least more than 7-inch. Problem with my 1st choice (the Galaxy Note 8.0) is Samsung products tend to have a "premium" price, slow updates and near-abysmal customer support. My second choice is the LG G-Pad 8.3. Specs looks amazing on paper and it will compliment my G2 very well. If you can ignore the poor/slow updates of LG phones in the past 2-3 years then one can live with it i think. Reviews of the G-pad has so far been amazing and i feel the screen size is almost perfect even more better when watching a movie or the football. My 3rd choice is the Asus Memo Pad 8 but again poor customer support in the UK and poor reviews have put me off somehow. Never considered the Tab 3 8.0 as specs for me is of low-end and (again) price is still at a premium IMO.

The bargain of the moment has to be the Samsung Tab3 8" from Sainsburys for £149.99. Typing this on one now, bought for the same price from Tesco before Christmas.

Saw a suggestion that John Lewis might price match.

Got myself a Note 8.0 a lot less than £200 3 months ago and i love it. Could do with a sharper screen but otherwise i can't complain.

The LG G-Pad is currently at a bargain of £120 i think but with a lot larger screen i think its not anymore "that" portable" and handy. And besides i still like the colourful and vibrant Samsung screens.
