Toyota IQ opinions and experiences
Hi all,
I will soon need to buy a second car (already have a MK2 Focus as a family vehicle which OH uses) to get to work myself. This is because I am changing jobs; with previous job I was able to take the bus as it was close to home.
I am looking at 20 miles each way per day.
What drives me (pun not intended!) towards this car is the fact that it has long gearing, therefore good fuel economy, also going by the reviews is quite refined compared to the rest of the superminis.
Budget is around 4.5-5k, therefore will be looking at cars around 2009-2010.
Space is not an issue, most of the time will be just myself and only occasionally will have OH with me for the odd trip.

There aren't many for sale compared to things like Citroen C1, Pug 107 and Toyota Aygo etc
The IQ would have very similar gearing to the rest of the little super minis I guess, and likewise with fuel economy.
There is nothing wrong with the IQ but have a look around at some other options too. I guess the only thing to do is test drive all the ones you like the look of and chose the best you can get for your money.
There are very few owners reviews on carsurvey, but worth a read anyway: http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/toyota/iq/single-page/
Have a look at some Toyota forums for better reviews and opinions, but these will be biased of course0 -
Long gearing? Strange phrase.
The problem comes when you get to a hill. That long gearing means your changing down. Or using more fuel to climb it.
My car has 6 gears. But 6th gear only starts to work above 60mph. Yes it drives fine at 50mph in 6th but uses more fuel.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just in case it is of interest, you can currently get a brand new Peugeot 107 for £6k:

With some delay, thanks all for the opinions.
I have put my money where my heart has been for a while and bought one:
10 reg IQ model 2, 59k miles, mauve (love the colour, stands out from the sea of grey cars). Loads of services (ex lease via Black Horse).
Seems a really solid little car and runs like a dream.0
