DVD recorder blocking audio

Have a set up of of Sky+ => Panasonic DVD recorder => Sony LCD TV , all connected correctly with scart leads.
In the past , never had any problems recording stuff from Sky+ onto DVD to free up space on Sky+
Now that I have a new Sony TV anything recorded from Sky+ onto DVD records video ok but no audio. Have played old DVDs recorded previously and audio is playing ok. Even just watching normal tv using Sky+ there is no audio when the DVD recorder power is on but as soon as DVD power is switched off audio is working normally.
Have used the DVD recorder menu to rerstore factory settings but to no avail.
Help gratefully received.
