Wedding company deposit - Seeking advice.

Hi All,

The wife to be and myself are planning our wedding for September, we booked a company to supply chair covers way back in last June / July and paid a deposit. To date the company have been absolutely awful at getting back to our queries or requests for quotes for other services they offer, we are starting to wonder if they are actually organised enough to turn up on the day. My wife to be has tried speaking with them about cancelling but the manager was rude enough to bring on the tears.

My question is where do we stand with getting our deposit back legally if atall?
We are going in to see them over the weekend and see if it can be sorted out but I'm doing my research first.

Thank you for your help.
Pete.

If you breach the contract then they can recover their losses from you. Whether you can get the deposit back will depend entirely on how much the deposit was and what their losses will be.

Thank you. I must have skipped the please read first part! Some good info there. We have paid £100 as a deposit and the rest due in September, they could keep some to cover any admin costs but they have been that useless I doubt they have done anything.
I'll talk to them this weekend and see if we can come to anaagreement.

    Thanks for your posts.

IMO you don't have anywhere near enough for an anticipatory breach of contract. So I'd go with the above advice.

Having faith in them/being in tears...is it possible your bride to be is just stressing out too much over things being perfect for the big day?

She over reacts at alot yes:) but this place really are being awful. There are alot of bad reviews popping up now so its not just us.
We are going in to see them tomorrow and see if we can sort it out.

To start with we will try and retrieve the whole deposit and if that doesn't work we will attempt to come to a deal.

Will keep this post updated with whatever the outcome. Any further advice before Saturday is great though thank you.
