Do any of you enter the one night hotel break competitions ?
(Not including an overnight break included in an event prize.)

I always think they are more hassle and end up costing more than they are worth, unless they are fairly local or on the way somewhere we are travelling.

I've had some lovely wins of 2 night breaks and just think it wouldn't be any more trouble some companys to add a night ?

I do, if I feel they are somewhere I really want to stay, and would be willing to pay for an extra night myself...

Or, like you, if they're fairly local, I'll enter :)

I enter them as we do lots of short breaks so we just add them on to other breaks.

I won a prize last year that I am still to take.It is for a one night stay in a five star hotel in London but as you say the other costs involved soon mount up.
I live quite a distance from London so rail travel adds up plus the extras :-)
I think I will still go for it though.
  • For London, yes, if they can be taken on a Saturday night.

I love any excuse to get down to London, and I'll do day trips from up here, but being able to stay the night is MUCH more convenient!

I've only ever won one, at a 5* hotel in the Lakes but it included £150 travel plus meals so didn't cost us any money and was a great experience :D

I don't enter them unless they are really close by or the hotel is really super-duper-fabulous.

I did win a super duper one in the Chewton Glen treehouses :D

Although it's a 200+ mile trip for us , we did take that and it was amazing !! Would have loved to book an extra night but couldn't afford the £800 !!

We ended up booking a nearby Travelodge for a few more nights and made a holiday of it
  • I enter ones in London sometimes even though it's far away (I'm in Glasgow) as a weekend in London is always good so I'd be willing to pay the associated costs. Same for anywhere else I am really keen to go, or places that are relatively nearby.

  • Definitely!

I'd highly recommend anyone who is wary of entering because of travel costs to enter and if they win use the MSE advice on how to find cheap rail fares. Last year I bagged £19 each way fares from London to the Scottish Highlands!!! Which was terrific as an off peak return (return within a month) ticket from Kent to London costs a ridiculous £28.60  And that's why I LOVE National Express coaches for popping into London ;)
