Wrong sofa delivered but only just found the proof 3 yrs later

Hi, ok this is a long shot but I bought a sofa June 2011 from sterling in the colour nutmeg but delivery took 16 weeks.. So when the sofa finally got delivered I thought this looks much lighter than I recall..I'm sure I ordered nutmeg. So I looked for receipt but could only find a invoice for scotch guard which confirmed nutmeg. So I assumed the mistake was mine and the sofa must have looked darker in different lighting. A yr later I'm shopping for sofas with my mum and I see my sofa... Next to the actual nutmeg one..I have the mink one. I spoke to someone in store and I was told that because it wasn't reported at the time it would be unlikely they could do anything, I told them I had invoice for scothguard and that it said nutmeg not mink, I was told unless I have delivery note or original receipt they would not be able to trace bk that long. So I cut my losses and let it lie.
Last night I was clearing out stuff as we are moving so and I found the original receipt clearly states nutmeg. So what's the chances of them rectifying this after 3 years? As they delivered 1000 quid sofa wrong? I read that there is a 6 yr repair or replace rule that traders must adhere to...is this right? Any answers would be great thanks

The statute of limitations on making a claim under the Sale of Goods Act is indeed 6 years from the purchase date, but I imagine you will be deemed to have accepted the goods by now. You can ask them and see what they say, but you can't expect to have free use of a sofa for two years though so I doubt they will just swap it for the nutmeg one.0

I think two and a half years down the line you would be classed as having accepted the goods. I might be wrong and other posters will be along shortly to correct me, but I certainly wouldn't be telling the customer to kiss off in any expectations after this length of time.
Okay, if you made a huge fuss and it came down to a he said she said at the time, and you have documentary evidence of this then yes go back and throw it in their face, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.
More importantly what are you really hoping for? You've had two and a half years out of the sofa, presumably happy enough with it.0 -
Yeah that's what I figured... I didn't make a huge fuss at the time as I'm just like that. I was just saw the receipt last night and wondered where I stood on it, yes I have had good use out it.. Lol but always hated the colour! I will be buying new sofa soon enough anyway probably in the nutmeg ha0
