Utility companies & Council tax Authority-information given to CRA'S?

Hello all,
Over 6 years ago (now dropped off file) I was insolvent (Bankruptcy). This was tied to an old address-100% NOT linked to my new address (no credit at this address at all-bank a/c tied to old address-only 1 bill-scottish power-in my name-no previous address given at time of signing up to scottish power). I do however have some debts (before anyone says 'have you not learnt' blah blah from insolvency-partner was ill & on no income for 5 months-arrangement to pay done with help of stepchange online debt remedy-all up to date & no missed payments-payments will increase when I'm back to full hours) again tied to another old address (not linked to present address).
I managed to check my file at old adress with checkmyfile.com (again not giving/linking new address) & discovered an old default/6 month late flag-last input in 2011 but a BIG arrears on a mortgage-which should have been included in BR-the company concerned has acted swiftly & its not longer on callcredit/equifax & I hope off experian (I can't seem to be able to order a file on old address only as experian want to send postal passwords etc & i don't live there-but assured it'll be off in 2 weeks).
My new address is great for partners health. Landlord does sporadic checks (or so letting agent says in bumpth supplied with tennancy). Lovely & quiet here. Also applied for a new job which is in debt advice etc & may need a previous address (not given yet). The one with the old mortgage debt will be clean in 2 weeks (& yes informed them of historic insolvency-if not on credit file they're not bothered-some of the work includes collection).
Anyways...I'm rambling now! Just out of interest-do utility companies & the council tax authority ie scottish power etc provide my name & date of birth to CRA'S if asked? Can I be searched on a database? being ultra paranoid as a)-need to keep credit on new address CLEAN & not linked to keep my house & b)-don't want addresses linking to affect my job. Any ideas anyone?

Some utility companies do report to the credit reference agencies, some reserve the right to (and the latter usually only report anything negative - i.e if you miss payments).
The electoral roll information is passed on to the 3 credit reference agencies. Specifically council tax information is not.
If you obtain copies of any of your credit files (from the agencies not third parties) they will ask you for historic address information (e.g. 10years for equifax).
How long have you lived at your new address?
If your bankruptcy was more than 6 years ago then any debts relating to it will not appear on your credit file anymore - assuming you checked all correctly had the default dates listed no later that your bankruptcy date (obviously a small error with the mortgage shortfall which you are sorting).
Do you have other debts since after your bankruptcy that you are trying to prevent being linked to your current address? There is certainly a risk that those debts will be linked at some point.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi Tixy, As mentioned yes I do have other debts....but all under control (not at all looking to run away from them,my sister receives them for me at her old address-not linked). I hope to get back to full payments on these soon but do not want it linked. Not on voters roll at current address either.0

So what is the main reason for not wanting them linked?
Is it because of the landlord? if so then a landlord cannot see credit account information when they/their agent searches your file.
All they see if public info (i.e. bankruptcy/insolvency - which will have dropped off, CCJs which you don't seem to have, and electoral roll info).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
More to do with future job(s) & any credit search. Payments all under control-no ccj's (possibly default or 2)-arrangements set for next 6-12 months (my previous employments have been in debt advice-please don't laugh lol!-so Know how to communicate with creditors & come to the right agreement). Obviously I would HOPE no CCJ but without a crystal ball you never know what life will throw at you...& obviously if this was spotted by landlord-not good! Again...probably over-thinking things through.0

For employment credit checks, they will ask your address history for 6 years usually so any adverse will show. They will also wonder about gaps in you ER history.
The key here is HONESTY and show it is under control as if you lie *when* they find out you will end up with a CIFAS marker and dismissal in all likelihood. The electoral role will link you, so will bank accounts and the credit check they will perform. Lying will call your character into question. Plus trying to "hide" and lie about finances which require a clean bill of health. Then there is a CIFAS fraud category for it. So DO NOT LIE.
Not being on the voters role will cause you problems as well, it's an offence to not fill out the census correctly, so you will have to go on it at some point. A credit check will show you aren't on it and create a link anyway.0 -

Oh Tinkerbell....we had all this on an old post. I have told them re: insolvency...& on re-checking my notes from interview-they only want my address for last 2 years (been at clean present address over 2 years).
Even if they subsequently asked for another address the one i mentioned before (where the incorrect mortgage arrears are showing) is clean now & links back to another address where I'm on the voters roll. Not filling in the roll yes is technically an offence but hardly anyone is prosecuted for it! Also the spec on my last job asked if CCJ'S present-that's all they are worried about. How can a credit check show that I am not on it & create a link???!! I have to put a previous address on a new credit application to 'link' it-they don't do it otherwise??! They don't have the authority to just 'link' an adress-it has to be from information given-data protection & all that??!?!
Gaps in electoral roll history???? The only check an employer can do is PUBLIC information....if no CCJ'S (which there are not)-only this & Bankruptcy & electoral register will show. Like I said-they only want last 2 years history & I;ve told them re: old BR. They;ve shortlisted me anyway so any checks are fine.
In all my years doing debt advice/repair etc I've never come accross a CIFAS marker from an employment check-EVER. It's a 'softish' search-thay CAN'T see any credit a/c's etc as I'm not applying for credit so they can't do a full search???
Lets not get this thread deleted as the last one-I'm more concerned about the landlord checks-but then not too much as again only PUBLIC info (CCJs etc) is available to letting agent...& having done debt advice etc before I know what to do to stop a CCJ being issued.

Not necessarily and full checks aren't always done instantly due to cost, they wait until offer

If you are a poster who has come back with different scenarios or another post because they did not like the answers last time.
Wanting advice on how to lie about your credit history and commit fraud to protect a job/house then you should have said. Saves time0 -
I agree with EVERYTHING you say. 100%. You've saved me a load of time. specially 'certain' employees have the right to do a full credit search..(when NOT applying for credit...fab!) Priceless! Learn something new every day! Perhaps you could furnish me with this information...change the notes in the debt advice/management book provided to me..note to self-do that tomorrow. The 'cost' of a 'full' credit check...mega bucks obviously.....!!! CIFAS marker??? Please tell me how I lied when I've been asked about addresses for last 2 years-been there 2 /12? Thats absolutley 100% fraud....isn't it lol (!)They do need to ask everytime a search is done...I take it you're aware of that (Searches completed anyway)-as only asking for TWO YEARS addresses ( so...no 'fraudulently declaring info on employment financial check??!!)...no CCJ'S on present address-been there 2 1/2 years....declared my BR-I'm so so so fraudulent it's untrue! Give that man a CIFAS marker lol (!).0
