Credit Rating - Highly Confused

I signed my wife up for Equifax. She has an excellent credit history and her score came up as 498. There was one minor blemish. This was caused when she opened an M&S account and they took the first monthly fee straight away before she had had a chance to deposit any money (they actually acknowledged liability).

Anyway, after getting the 498 score and seeing this minor blemish she wrote to M&S and they contacted Equifax and got the record changed. Nothing else has changed (apart from day-to-day purchases which are not that high). We did her score again today and were astonished to find that it has actually gone down (to 494). Can anyone explain this?

She is also 'Excellent' in most areas. However, she is only 'Good' for the electoral register. She is down as being on the electoral register at our present home for only 4 years although we moved here 6 years ago. Is the fact that there is an apparent gap between our old and new registrations the reason why she is not 'Excellent' here?

Thanks for any input.

  • Individual credit scores don't exist. The so called "credit score" you paid for is just a meanigless number ignore it.

Lenders don't see the score nor would they care. Lenders have their own unique system when scoring you for a product.
