Can I just have a vent on here.

I reserved a sound box at Currys, travelled 24 miles round trip, and when I found out that it didn't have an earphone Jack, which is important to me I cancelled it in the shop.

Looked at more and this young man pointed to a good one, I asked if it had an earphone jack, he looked and made sure, and said yes, it had an earphone jack. So bought it.

New TV bought elsewhere locally and had it all fitted in, so much trouble with the headphones last night, no way would they work so I got the man back to have a look at the TV which needed a tweeking and asked him his advice on the cordless headphones. He said
its no wonder it wont work, that isn't an earphone Jack, under the port it said 'Line in' GRRRR, another 24 mile trip tomorrow to return it..... What a bluddy idiot.
I will never ever even walk into a Currys store now, let alone buy anything.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Never trust "techie" advice from that group, they make it up as they go along.

As a general rule with these things if the Aux port is on the back it is audio in only and if it is on the front it is audio out only

ETA: just realised you probably don't mean audio dock type thing but a sound bar for the TV? In which case the headphones would go directly to the TV and not through a sound bar, the sound bar is a purely audio output device and there would be very few if any with an audio out Aux port. The whole point of the sound bar is to boost the sound from the TV, totally pointless having one if you are going to use headphones, much like a surround sound system.

Thanks Fosterdog, that explains a lot. We have had a theatre sound system for years and was just so used to that. Just used to plug the sender into the front of that on a night after hubby had gone to bed. (to use cordless headphones)

I don't want wires hanging from the back of the telly, which is why I wanted a sound bar with a earphone jack. The supposed 'jack' was on the back of the sound bar. I suppose my brian had just got used to using the old system. My bug bear is that the sales man confirmed that it did indeed have one so was quite happy to buy. In actual fact, we have plugged our old system back in and the sound is far superior to this 'super duper all singing all dancing' (described as such in the shop) machine so we will go back to what we had before. Thanks for your time.

We initially thought that because the sound bars don't have a headphone socket that it would be awkward. But on getting a new television and a sound bar,and plugging in my cordless headphones into the telly it cuts out the sound bar volume. They work a treat, and most televisions do have the socket.

We are pleased we got the sound bar.Even though the sound isn't quite as good as the surround sound system was, it is great to be rid of all the speakers and wires, and the sound itself is far better than the television sound.

But i agree,Currys are next to useless. You either get some one who doesn't know what that are talking about or you can't hear them even if they do for the racket that is playing all the time and stopping you from hearing them or even talking to each other. We don't bother these days.
  • Never listen to the staff at Currys/PC World, they are clueless.

I wouldn't try taking them to court though
