Littlewoods Error

Options
Hi all, I'm new, please be kind

I have recently viewed my credit file and I see Littlewoods have placed a late payment Mark on my credit file.
In September last year when abroad, Littlewoods attempted to take the money, there were more than sufficient funds in my account, but for some reason which I still don't know didn't go through!!
On my return back to the UK there was the £12 late payment charge, and I was told to pay the £35 immediately, which I did. This was over a week after the letter was sent out, then 2 weeks later they still took 2 months worth of payments in 1 go.

Since this happened my credit file has as mentioned, had a late payment marker placed on it.

If the late payment is not my error, but the error of the banks and or Littlewoods, and I took the neccessary steps to rectify the problem as soon as i physically and possible could, can the late payment marker be disputed and removed by showing all the proof I have that on that the payment was supposed to have been taken i had the funds available?

  • Was this by DD?

You need to write to littlewoods, explaining what happened, and ask them to remove the late payment marker.

    See what you get back.

  • Yes it was DD

I'll write to them and see what response I get. I had all my Littlewoods statements and bank statements out last night cross referencing it and never was there an occasion where we didnt have sufficient funds in our account, our account has always had plenty of money in it
  • I have had this. Company say DD refused, Barclays said they never tried to take it.

    I just changed insurance company...

Post #4 makes a very good point; might be worth writing to your bank and asking them to confirm in writing whether or not Littlewoods tried to collect the direct debit?

Not sure how long they keep such records.
    What will your verse be?

  • I would write to Littlewoods telling them that your bank has confirmed that they never attempted to debit your account and that you are therefore dissatisfied with Littlewoods' conduct and want them to return you to the position you would have been in but for their error.

The word "dissatisfied" has a specific regulatory meaning as it amounts to a complaint.

Get proof of posting (free from the post office). They will have eight weeks from receipt of the complaint to get a response into the post.

If they fail, or the response is unsatisfactory, you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
  • After many emails & phone calls, Littlewoods have said that when my Direct Debit details changed, it skipped a pament, even though they had almost 4 weeks notice, and also the fact the new mandate stated "payments will continue as normal"!!

However on the plus side, Littlewoods have agreed to remove this breach from my credit file.

So a note to all Littlewoods or catalogue users, if you change DD details, ensure Littlewoods do not skip the payment!

    Thanks for all you help
