How to relocate?

For the past 3 years my OH and I have dreamed of relocating to Cornwall. One of the main reasons for not having done so is that I have been waiting for a job vacancy to come up in the department that my heart is set on.......well today, after 3 years of checking religiously on a weekly basis, that job has been advertised :j
There is a lot to think about.....but where do I start? Obviously I would need to be offered the job first but then what? Would it be worth seeing if they have staff accommodation to facilitate my family? Or will we need to start looking immediately at houses?
For 3 years I never believed this day would come and now it has I find myself talking myself out of it as the reality of just how much of an upheaval it's going to be has dawned on me!!
Is there anyone who has relocated a distance? Do you have any advice?

Honestly I would just concern yourself with getting the job.
You could go and stay down there for a weekend and get a feel for the area, there are good and not so nice parts of the county.
Then when you have the job consider renting somewhere if there isn't staff accommodation.
Don't let this be the stumbling block, go for it0 -
I moved the other way Cornwall to Brighton, I just found a place to rent for 6 months and moved.0

We are house hunting in Cornwall at the moment, aiming to move there asap from south London where we have lived all our lives.. We also have been dreaming and planning this for years. It's a big step, exciting and a wee bit scary.
But, (as the saying goes) you only regret what you don't do .....!;)
Good luck!0 -
We relocated to Thanet. Jobs weren't our consideration as we have substantial savings and shares.
Our new house is 3x the one we left in Berks.
We haven't looked back since.
You will find your stress levels will come down considerably - less concrete, more grass.0 -
Thanks guys. I guess, in a way, we're lucky as we currently rent so it should be relatively simple (so to speak!)
We go to Cornwall 4/5 times a year so know it pretty well but not well enough to know the good/bad areas of certain places. Last time we were there (4 months ago) we scouted out loads of areas but I guess you don't know for sure until you've been living there a while.
One thing that REALLY bothers me is moving all the stuff in our house! We currently live in Torquay and moved across town and I nearly had a breakdown!!! God knows how it would be moving 100+ miles. Staff accommodation appeals as we wouldn't need to take anything, sell the lot, then take our time to find something perfect and start again. What isn't encouraging is that nobody seems to want to answer the phone in that department!!!0
