Question about wage status / concessions for 50+

Options
Hi Everyone

I wonder if you can help.

I'll be retiring soon aged 58 and on a private pension but won't get my state pension until I am 66. My question is about concessions for over 50s - for entry to places and courses etc. Can I ask for concessionary rates as I am on a low wage but have no evidence of income like a pension book or state benefits number.

What do others do?

regarding age, how about driving licence, passport or birth certificate?

For concessions ref income, may not aplly to all but most I have seen are means tested, and will require proof of some kind of State
    benefit

Ref age, I have never had a problem or anyone asking proof of age, but then I may not have worn as well as you :D

Thanks I didn't think about the driving license. I was also interested to know if you can get cheaper courses?

    Probably not.

I am retirement age (being a woman over 60) and retired at my retirement age. However, I have not yet reached my revised State Pension Age.

Accordingly, I always ask for pensioner concessions, but one of the places I cant get my pensioner concession is on a course I am currently on. I'm on a local authority course and they won't accept the fact that I'm in correct agegroup as proof of entitlement to the concessionary rate. They said I have to produce proof I am receiving my State Pension. Even when I pointed out that my income is pretty nearly identical level to State Pension Credit level, because it isn't called "State Pension" (even though it is A pension and called one) then I was refused my concession:mad::(

I think concessionary rates for anything for the Early Retirement Agegroup (ie 50-59) are rare.

Only thing I know is that a few of the rail companies sometimes have a special offer called Club 55 - ATW, Scotrail and First Great Western come to mind

You need to be (obviously) 55 or more
