Hello all
My son is 6 in July and wants a scooter for his birthday - I know there are lots of different types, he used to have a baby chuggington one but my sister tells me they have moved on a bit, does anybody know anything about scooters?
Thanks in advance.

I highly recommend the micro scooter company. I have had 4 scooters from them, all brilliant.
A mini micro each child http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/scooters-model-mini-micro-ages-3-5.html
Then when they were about 6 or 7 they moved on to sprite aluminium ones http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/scooters-model-aluminium-ages-5-13.html
Having said that if the full range had been available when I started with the company I think I would have bought a maxi micro scooter http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/scooters-model-maxi-micro-ages-6-12.html0 -
We have had a variety of Micro scooters and they are fab- easily replaceable parts and a good resale value makes them worth the higher initial cost.
DS moved from a mini to a maxi a couple of years ago and I'm now thinking of moving him up to a Sprite (he's a year older than yours) as I'd like him to get the hang of the two-whelers.
And for you, may I recommend the Flex blue? Lots of fun

My 7 and 9 year olds have £15 ones with star wars/hello kitty on them. Had them for about 2 years and play with them most weeks.
They love them as it's the scooting they enjoy not the "it's a...... model". no offense Building with Lego, but £145 for a scooter?! For a 6 year old?!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

No, for the parents
"And for you, may I recommend..."
Edit: DD did have a £20 scooter first but it was an awful, rattly thing which broke (and was unfixable) within a few months. Pretty much anything which can break on a Micro can be replaced, which is a plus for us as we're all quite tough on our scooters. (And yes, I do have a Flex blue!)They call me Dr Worm... DS had a JD bug for his 6th birthday two years ago which folded up and had a carry strap on it, cost about £50ish I think and was great. However, an indoor skate park has opened about a minute's walk away from our house and when he started going there it became apparent that his scooter wasn't suitable for the ramps and slopes there, so he's had a new one for his recent 8th birthday which DH got advice from the skate park shop for, although he didn't get it from them. I think it was about the £70 mark.
It really all depends where they want to use the scooter. For out on the road the one DS had was fine, but it was no use in the skate park.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
flikers (?) and powerwings are popular at our primary. My youngest has a powerwing but it's not speedy - the boy next door is much faster on his basic scooter.52% tight0

Both our 3 year old and 9 year old have the 2 wheel micro sprite scooters which I would hands down recommend. They fold up well, have a kick stand and are generally very sturdy. They have replaced the rubber handle grips with foam which is a downside as not as durable but otherwise we think the price is reasonable considering the amount of use they have. Neither of them have ever had the 3 wheeled ones as we didn't feel the need and have had no problems, they also seem less likely to tip as the foot plate isn't as low to the ground. Our 3 year old's balance is amazing as he flies along at a great rate of knots!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0
