  • Hi,

are you sure you can hang it yourself, usually needs trimmed.

Anyway, here's a wee video, about fitting handle, might help.

well , i will see i guess.....the dimensions are identical to the one i just took out and we will be replacing the flooring with hard wearing carpet , which is repalcing thick laminate , so hoping it wont need anything doing to it...thanks for vid!

I had 12 internal doors fitted late last year. I was charged £40 a door.
All had a little trim. But the main problem was the orig frames were not 'true' and this in a house less than 40 years old.

The amount of margin for error on the hinges and catch is very small.

hmmm , chippies are not usually interested in this sort of work , perhaps getting a handyman in might be an idea

Well my guy advertises himself as a chippie. He estimated he could do three doors a day. The downstairs cloakroom and bathroom took a little longer as they had locks. We also had him staining the doors, two days, which gave him a weeks work.
I think you might be surprised if you had a phone round. All this wet weather .... they might jump at a inside task.

Going back to your orig post ref spindle , you can normally get the whole set in a kit.
Don't buy a cheap handle , you are going to be looking and using it for years. Also you need hinges. But if you decide to get help , chat with the guy, he will be able to give advice.

When I looked at doors ( solid wood ) they suggested 4 inch hinges But my guy wanted to get just the three inch, this was after he checked there weight.

As others have said, you'll be very lucky if you don't need to trim it at all.

The trimming, and fitting of handles, is not difficult, but do make sure you take your time. Remember the old adage - measure twice and cut once !

I've fitted plenty of doors in my time, I'm probably over cautious and it's a case of shave a bit too little off, re-hang, re-measure, shave off a bit more, re-try, shave off a bit more, etc. I'm sure a professional would shave off just the right amount first time, but I take the approach that you can always take a bit more off, you can't put some back on !

Regarding handles, just be aware that usually there are 2 common sizes, by which I mean the length of the "bolt" from the handle to the edge of the door, if that makes sense. Not an issue if you're doing the whole thing from scratch, but something to be aware of if the holes are pre-drilled, or if you're replacing an existing handle.
