I don't agree with it at all. I've never seen anyone actually coming out of the lavs sucking a chuba chup.

Wasn't one of Girls Aloud in court over an altercation with a lavvie attendant in a club?

I haven't read the whole thread but have been in places like Hong Kong etc. This is standard service there and no-one expects a tip - where tip goes is immaterial to me. If good serivice, leave a few bawbees (Scottish expression for coppers!) However, what you do find is that you are going into a lovely clean toilet as they check it behind you. Toilets are clean, no paper towels on floor, basins probably dried off to make it nice for next users, no vomit or p@@ round the bowl. They are being paid for this - a tip a wee bonus.

Here our local authority have won national awards. We have toilet attendants which is the norm these days. OK they don't hand out paper towels etc but do ensure facilities are really good for you all using them. They used to put their tips towards buying flowers for the toilets (not their own pocket). Internal Audit then decided that tips were 'income' to the Council, should be receipted and then banked as income! Is that not a bit jobsworthy? The folk looking after the public loos were doing a fantastic job and really feel now the pleasure and pride has been removed. They were not actually pocketing the money but using it to enhance the look of the premises.

Came across this in my home town of West Bromwich (of all places - did someone say upper class) and was completely gobsmacked. We just stared at each other for about 10 seconds, me not knowing what the hell was going on.

I'm all for tipping service, but please allow me the dignity of wanting it in the first place - I'll wash my own hands thanks very much.
LOL :D Sorry I had to reply to this - Where abouts in West Brom did they have this :rotfl:
  • waw! I've always wanted to see this! doesn't sound quite what I expected though. Think the final scenes of Inside Man, where the immoral bank boss is having a shave in the toilets. I always thought it might be more pleasant to be pampered in the loos all day than deal with broken glass, tarts in painfully high heels and letcherous old men all night. Maybe the British version isn't as classy. ;)

I get a feeling that some people prefer to sniff urine, sit on soiled toilet seats and swim through other bodily fluids before using the toilet.

I mean come on, your not a home! Live a little, get pampered, use their perfume / aftershave and sit on a clean toilet.

Nothing more disgusting than a unsatisfactory toilet.

Off course, I dont like the idea of someone being outside hearing & knowing full well that Im dropping bombs. But then again they're getting tipped!

Why would anyone want to eat a lollipop that had been stored in a loo?

DangerousSports - I wouldn't mind if they actually did anything to improve the quality of the lavatorial experience, but apparently their remit only extends to trying to extract money from you for agent orange style perfume and 'helping' you wash your hands! On the one occasion I asked if they had any more toilet roll I was told in no uncertain terms 'that isn't my job'.

Am off to Kentish Town tonight - not sure what the venue is like, but I will be keeping my eye out for the purveyors of toilet extortion and see if I can find out how they break into such a career...!
  • I have come across alot of lavvy attendants. The ones in nightclubs and bars annoy me the most because the gents toilets are always rank and the only service they provide is playing candy man (selling lollipops). Luckily i'm always far too drunk to even notice them or for them to expect a tip!

I have however met some lavvy attendants who provide an excellent service whilst on holiday. I always feel compelled to tip when I see them going into a cubical after you (and every other user) to spray airfreshner and make sure everything is clean for the next person.

The most OTT lavvy attendants I have seen were on a TV programme called Sin Cities. It was in some Asian country where the attendant stands behind you and 'unzips' you at the urinal  he then grabs you by the hips and starts swaying you back and forth in a rhythm so you can get a nice flow going. At the same time another attendant (if free) will massage your shoulders. Talk about personal service :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!
