I'm in credit.....not sure what to do

Options
I recently received a refund from a retailer to my M&S credit card. I had already paid off the balance on the credit card the previous month and as such my card is now in credit by a significant amount. I could really do with these funds elsehwere and would prefer not to have to use this card all the time until the credit is used up. Is there any way I can get my hands on the cash? Thanks in advance

U'll need to ask the card issuer, they may give you the funds.

otherwise, you will just need to spend it on the card
  • I had the exact same issue on my card, after a lengthy conversation with customer services the most practical solution seemed to be to just spend the credit so I filled up the car at the petrol station. Depends how much in credit you are though and how quickly you would normally spend that amount on regular payments such as food, petrol etc. You could try asking them to credit is back to your bank account.

Phone them up and ask for it to be credited back to your bank account.

They might insist on sending you a cheque, which may take a couple of weeks to come, but they should give you the money. It's your money after all! Just spending through it may be quicker and easier.
  • Just use the card to pay for everything until you credit is used up...

i usually get them to credit my bank or send a cheque (sometimes the latter has been preferable to me)

you haven't said how much we are talking about. if a tank of fuel would do it, that has to be the easy way.

if it is a more substantial amount, say £2,000, then they will send you the money if you insist.

as an aside, i channel as much of my spending as i can via Cashback Creditcards...which pays me well:D
  • Thanks everyone.
It's £500, so a bit more than a tank of fuel but not unrealistic to simply spend through on the card. I thin kI will speak to them and see ift hey will credit my account but if not it sounds like just using the credit up on the card is probably the path of least resistance.

I accidentally paid £200 off a card which I owed £80 somethinh. Lloyds happily put the amount in credit back into my account.

if you insist they will send it to your current account

but do you earn points for spending? if so, maybe a good idea to just do that anyway
