Holiday Entitlements

AIUI(unless I have missed something having not read the full trail recently) this makes it a little more complicated because the legislation still refers back to the employment act and its definition of a weeks wage.
There have been references on here to employers that cap at 28 days and make 6 day workers take 6 days for a week off.
Indeed, the regulations are quite contradicting. If you try to work it out on the gov calculater using a 7 day week you get an entitlement of 28 days, work it out in hours however and based on an 8 hour day you get 313.6 hours which is 5.6 x 7 days.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
thanks for the replies.
Although I am contracted to work Mondays I have been told I will get my bank holidays off and then my 20 days leave.
And the government wonder why mums do not want to go back to work. With 3 kids and only 20 days holiday it is going to be hard but oh well should have found out holiday entitlement first!0 -

I'm not sure why you're so surprised. It's fairly standard to get 20 + 8 days. I get more than that but I don't work in retail As others have said, pretty much everyone working in retail will get the same.
The fact that you have kids is irrelevant, unless you think you should get extra holidays because you've got kids.0 -

But you aren't just getting 20 days holiday, you are getting 28 and can choose when you want to take 20 of them yourself.(if the employer agrees)0 -
Defaults is 5.6 weeks off, if you want more weeks off then you need to negotiate a different contract.
Some use annualized hours
eg: work on average 3 days a week but some weeks do 4 or 5 and other weeks do 0,1,2
Others do term time so only work 39 weeks 13 weeks off0 -
The "norm" for retail (shop floor rather than head office accounts) is not anything "plus 8 bank holidays". Have you not noticed that most retail establishments are open on a bank holiday?
I have not only noticed they are open, I have actively participated in using their services on a bank holiday. Have you never heard of the phrase 'in lieu'?0 -

I have not only heard of the phrase "in lieu" but know what it means.
You didn't use it in your earlier post and so it is not what you said.0 -
Sorry, I thought it was common knowledge, my mistake. I'll spell things out next time for the uninitiated.0

The only way you will get enough holiday to avoid childcare costs is to get a term time only job such as in a school. Even then you can hit odd days where it doesn't tally with your children's days off. Trouble with term time only work is it ends up low paid as you only get around 39 weeks wages a year. My firm are very mean as we get the 5.6 weeks including bank holidays so with the compulsory shutdown days for Christmas it doesn't leave much to choose for myself and then they tell me that has to be August."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
