Replacing Radiators

Hi

I have what looks like ancient radiators at my home, they are 600mm by 1300mm which are not easily available in most of the diy stores. I was thinking of replacing them by a 600 by 1200 or 1400mm rads. Does anyone of you have any experience as to how difficult this could be as i consider myself as a basic diyer.

I think the old rads need flushing as they are cold at the bottom and the bleeding valves are all bald coz of which I can not even bleed them and hence thinking that putting new ones would be best for economy and maintenance point of view.

Also one of the radiators was installed by someone just a few months ago and I never got him inhibitor so wanted to know if I should put the inhibitor or no in that new rad.

Thanks for the help

Well I had a go at doing just this in our house and I think they key is how much play you have in the pipework leading to each side of the radiator.

On one of ours I had enough play to be able to fit the wider radiator fine without reworking the pipes. However another radiator was a different story, with the pipes at either end up against joists.

In the end I had to get someone in to adjust the pipework, which wasn't part of the plan!
