Water feature tips wanted

I am planning to build a large water feature in the garden, (no fish no filter) It will be about 1.5 mtrs high and cover several square meters with waterfalls etc. I have loads of stone and slate and so no problem with the construction. I have checked pond pumps but they are expensive at over £100 for a high output pump. I saw a cheap submersible pump the other day 10,500 lts per hour, which may be good, but it's the type you might use for DIY, not a proper pond pump. Anyway any ideas as to how much flow I need to get a good fall, I don't want a trickle. Any tips really......
