Can I have these defaults removed from my a/c? Unusual circumstances!

Options
I'm new to this site and I'm going to throw a not-so simple question out there!

In 2008 (aged 19), I was struggling to pay my rent and bills due to unforeseen circumstances, Santander could be of no assistance so I visited Barclays bank (my new bank), the assistant said she would be able to open an overdraft facility along with a new bank a/c, what I believed to be an overdraft facility of £1200 anyway! The adviser gave me this in cash over the till, I paid my bills to my landlord and made sure all the utility bills were paid.

To my shock a month later my bank account was passed to an internal arrears department, this apparently was neither an overdraft or a loan , they expected me to pay it back immediately!!! This was not possible and I had no other choice but to set-up a payment plan with the advisor. Apparently the adviser had obtained the credit line from a buffer facility the banks use to prevent customer direct debits bouncing whilst direct debits are switched between banking providers.

The payments were far in excess of what I had expected and my account fell further into arrears. Anyway to cut a long story I now see 13 x defaults on my credit file!! It's showing as an 'Unsecured Loan Agreement' and really had a huge impact on me being able to obtain credit over the years (I have only had sub-prime loan options available as a result).

The big question: Can I dispute these defaults on my file? This is not a secured loan (no signed or verbal agreement), neither an overdraft agreement as originally led to believe.

Is it possible to have these defaults revoked considering this was not an 'Official Finance Agreement' so to speak? -

Any help on this will be much appreciated (I'm trying to get on the housing ladder)

Many thanks,

I believe that the defaults (in fact, there should only be one, just shown every month) are technically accurate and so will have to stay. Defaults on your credit file have no relation to secured/unsecured status, and I don't think they're related to an enforceable credit agreement.

However, when is the first default? They will drop off your credit file 6 years after the default is first recorded - which should be reasonably soon.
