Reluctant ..

Options
Ok, so I have been reading through a few posts over the last couple of days and I've noticed a high volume of posters saying that Members/MSE readers have been contacting Competitons Holders divulging information on MSE's wins which have been posted on here  I'm a little taken aback by this really and have removed all my Wins from my statuses and it's made me think twice about posting in IWIWIW.

I think it just brings home that you REALLY don't know who is reading your stuff eh? And that not all people have good intentions out there. Me, I'm just too trusting by nature.

I've noticed a lot of people saying they don't post in IWIWIW .. And often wondered why? I think I might be figuring this out now

They would come up on an internet search without the need for anyone to report them.
  • Which is why I won't be posting in IWIWIW from now on.

Don't really like the idea of company's seeing everything I post about wins either.. Which has also been pointed out a lot in recent days.

Big brother and all that .. Always being watched.

MSE is an open forum - it always has been. Whatever gets posted here can be seen in Google searches etc. In some cases that's been a good thing, I'm sure - companies don't like bad publicity, and I'm sure some elsewhere on these boards have been shamed into looking into posters' complaints etc.

To be honest, though, if someone Googled my name, they'd find wins too - on Facebook (companies' statuses are public) especially.

If I were to discuss a prize on here that I hadn't received, I would mention the company, hoping they would see the bad publicity they were getting and send the prize.

However, if it was something more sensitive then I would address my posts hypothetically, not mentioning the comp prize or name.

I am keen to change my username to something less obvious, but other than that, I am confident that I am capable of keeping my posts PC enough to feature on a public forum like this one.

I've only seen someone mention this happened for a fact once and that was yesterday.

Where are all the other posts?

For the most part, it does not happen.

It's the best thing to always remember that what you write on the internet can be read by anyone. Most especially, it can be read by those you don't want reading it.

Whether people are being reported or not is pure speculation, nobody has proof of it happening from what I've seen.

slinky1980, I never announce my wins on the IWIWIW or in my signature because I know there are some nasty jealous comping trolls lurking on these boards and across the social working networks. It is very sad but there is nothing we can do. I believe in Karma - what comes around goes around - and I just hope these people will be unlucky and get paid back for their nastiness as it is what they deserve.

I am staying in my corner for a while where I feel safe as I am the sort of person who takes nasty comments to heart and they can make me ill. I am not strong enough to just brush them off like some can :(
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

What is being divulged and why???
What I can't get my head around - if people are divulging the wins we have received - what are the company doing with that information? Are you implying that they disqualifying/eliminating us from winning? Lots of competition have thousands upon thousands of entries - I can't imagine that the majority of companies have the time or inclination to remove/eliminate people from the comp!

What am I supposed to be afraid of here?

I've been announcing my wins on IWIWIW since I started comping (7 years ago)...and it does not appear to have had any impact on the amount I win!
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

This is my point exactly BlueBella x x

And as I said, I'm quickly realising why people refrain from posting.

Good luck everyone! I'm sticking to just the comping side of this forum now and staying well clearing of posting because whatever you say on here attracts the lynch mob.

    Bye bye.
