Obtaining A Credit Report Without Linking Current Address?

Options
Back in 2007 I moved away from an address with some unsecured lending EG credit cards loans etc.

I want to check my credit report for that address but don't obviously want it to link to my current address.

The methods I have seen so far all involve me entering my current address (EG paying with debit card etc) and Experian et al could well give that information to DCA's etc.

Experian Tallyman "Find debtors you've been unable to reach and get the most up-to-date contact information. Experian's extensive databases of consumer and commercial information are updated frequently, enabling you to locate elusive debtors, make contact and collect unpaid debt."

Are there any companies I can approach that will carry out a credit search for me that does not link to my current address?

I have inquired with the Trust Online and there are no CCJ's.

The only way to get a copy of your report for any of the 3 agencies is to provide your current and previous addresses.

That said it is fairly likely that this debt will no longer appear on your credit file anyway. If you stopped paying in 2007 then the debt would have defaulted in 2007 and so would have dropped off your file by now (as account entries only stay on your file for 6 years from the default date).

If there is no CCJ for this debt and you haven't paid since 2007 or written to the creditor then it sounds like it would be statute barred anyway - and so even if a debt collector did chase you could simply inform them that you don't intend to pay as you believe it is statute barred.

Thanks yes that is what I was hoping but these boards are littered with dubious DRA's and even the original lending companies involved re-registering defaults wrongly so the years drag on past the 6 year period. So I wanted to see if I could view my file without giving them my current contact details which obviously would be of interest to them if and collections agency was for example using Experians Tallyman or other database flagging services to locate individuals.

I see there are some landlord/tennant vetting services that will credit check individuals for you for a fee, I guess you could check yourself that way, not sure how much information you would get though ie to what depth beyong CCJ they can get.

I have heard there are various private investigation firms that can run a credit check for a fixed price, may investigate that road.

I would suggest when applying for your credit report that you provide all the previous addresses you have ever lived at including your current address. I understand what you are trying to avoid, however if you are on the electoral role at your current address then this would already show on your credit file and is likely to show your previous addresses too if you were on the electoral role at them, so I'm sure lenders would be able to trace you that way if they wanted seen as they can see the electoral role data. I agree with Tixy its unlikely you would see these defaults etc and you could take screen shots/print outs of your reports in case anything ever does get added. If you still have the default notices you could use them as proof of default date too?
  • If you have a bank account, BT, some utilities at your current address, then they will be reported at your new address and the addresses linked anyhow.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that. I read the post and all I got was:

"I want to find out who might be chasing me so I can avoid them for long enough to get away without having to shoulder the responsibility of actually paying back my debts"

...and people ask why it's so hard to get credit these days. Jeez.
