In my opinion, there's no set amount that a person 'should' have in savings at any given age.

It's an individual thing, dependant on lifestyle, salary and what the person is comfortable with.

  • Having £200 a month in living costs helps a bit, had you moved out when you finished uni you'd hardly have anything like that.

You're doing well for your age but until you step up and live on your own in the big bad world it's hardly a reasonable comparison to someone that left home at 18 and has had to put a roof over their own head.

100% agree, i have been somewhat lucky with my option of being able to stay at home till now.

As others have said its all relative to what you do and where you are. Graduates in electronics in central Scotland can expect probably around £23-4k, more if they have a Masters. Someone I know who started off in investment banking in London in 2000 had a starting salary of around £25,000 and their first payrise was about 50% - but they worked 14+ hours a day and ate all meals in the office.

At the moment it sounds like you are saving a reasonable amount of your salary and thats a good thing. Once you move out it will be far more difficult but if nothing else you have a good amount sitting in the bank for future use.
