Help with a car buying dilemma

Hi

I am in the process of trying to find a used BMW 1 series

My question to ask is which of the following two conditions is the best to buy.

1. An older model with low mileage

Or

2. A newer model with higher mileage

As the price in most cases is fairly similar

Thanks in advance

Depends. Do you want a diesel?

If so then go for an older model (pre 2007 i think) with low mileage. Newer ones (07 to 10 but someone else will confirm) have a big issue with timing chains...this appeared on watch dog.

This applies to all 2 litre bmw diesels during this period.

Unless you want a 135 pocket rocket, get a 3 series instead. The 1 series seems to serve no useful purpose at all other than doing everything that a 3 will do in a more cramped space and more tendency to rush backwards towards a hedge.
I still say BMW were going to build a fwd contender with the 1 series and lost their nerve.
