New Electric Shower

hi All

Just a quickie

Had a new shower installed recently. New cables run from the fuse box to the bathroom and shower installed. Read somewhere that we need a certificate for this, but the electrician said that he never does this and if he did we would have to pay more as they would find problems. Not sure how true this is. Please help!

Thanks
Digi

I'm pretty sure the responsibility for complying with Building Regs and any associated costs is ultimately yours.

Some electricians will agreed to deal with BR etc on your behalf but it doesn't look like yours did.

I hate to say this, but it sounds like you employed a cowboy. Unfortunately, building regs require the person ordering the work (that's you) to ensure that the regulations are complied with.

You could pay your council's Building Control department a hefty fee to come out and inspect it. Or just keep quiet and hope nobody notices.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

That page applies to England only. The OP may be in Wales or Scotland.
  • Hmmm, Ok. Thanks!!

We are about to get them out to do more work. Might not bother now...

    Thanks again for all posts!

So, he doesn't get his work certified because he knows it wont pass.

    Sounds very professional! :D

I would stay away from that shower for fear of electrocution! ;)
