Never heard of slimcomputer, looking at their website I would run a mile, looks like a scam.
Users are advised to pay attention while installing this ad-supported application:
    • Offers to change the homepage for web browsers installed in the system
    • Offers to change the default search engine for web browsers installed in the system
    • Offers to download or install software or components (AVG Toolbar) that the program does not require to fully function
Stick to PC Decrapifier, it is well known and reputable

I managed to partition my 1TB drive
make back up copy of windows 8 to USB and in my new partition
    install AVAST instead of Defender

surprisingly shocking how much is not done on a new computer to help people

Dell do supply computers with a recovery partition, it's just well hidden.

They've also been critiscised in the past for too much bloat and crap software, now they come with virtually none! To the point where my laptop didn't even come with any drivers to make the Nvidia graphics chip active!

DAK how to change file setting for my documents where documents, photos etc are saved...this is currently set as C drive but feel it should be on my new E drive.

also I cant save applications to my C drive, says I need administrator access, even though my access has it enabled on users....any advice welcome
    thanks

There will probably be an option (most likely within a Dell utility) to make some Recovery Disks on DVD or USB. I suggest using it now, and keeping them safe.

I'm not talking about the Windows 8 option to create a Recovery Drive; this one will most likely be within a Dell utility (it used to be called DataSafe on an old PC I saw, but it's possible the name has changed now).

These can dig you out of a hole on some future day when the computer's disk dies or the built-in Recovery Partition has a problem.
