I'm posting this new thread to see if there is anybody out there who has dealt with a company called Staircase Solutions (Bradford).
We paid them a deposit of around £3000 for a new staircase and balustrade in September 2013. Their T&Cs stated that we would settle the balance upon arrival of stairs into the UK and a separate amount for installation.
This company were terrible at communication, and part way through I had a feeling something was wrong - very wrong.
We received a message from Staircase Solutions late December 2013 advising that the manufacturer in Italy, Scale Nilur, was going under and to pay them the balance directly - we declined. Did ask the pertinent question is the manufacturer in trouble or is your business in trouble. Even had an email from Barrie Meakin/Monique, advising that Scale Nilur is in trouble. If I could be bothered to spend money making a phone call to Italy, I would find out. But I don't expect anyone to be honest, and from experience with Italians, I will save myself more trouble.
Manufacturer contacted us yesterday 27/1/14, asking for the balance outstanding to be paid, so they can ship our stairs, provide them with proof of deposit, and they will offer us a reduction, plus 22% Italian VAT. Not a chance. We are still not throwing good money after bad.
We no longer want the stairs, it will be nothing but trouble, and we will still have to pay someone to install them. We have gone elsewhere. Its been awful living with temporary wooden stairs in the house for nearly 5 months.:mad::mad:
We are money down, and want to recover it, if we can. But want to know if anybody has been in a similar situation, where a company has gone under with their funds or have dealt with this company.
Also how can we try to recover our money.
So advice and information if anybody can help.
Thank you in advance.

We have had the same problem except that we have paid in full. The Italians have our stairs and are trying to get them to pay for it. They have also told me that Barrie Meakin has told them that he wants to place more orders with them. Strange that, seeing as they have no money to pay the Italians for our stairs and gone out of business. Must be starting up again. If you paid by credit card then you can get your money back, unfortunately we paid by Bacs transfer. Barrie Meakin mobile number is 07720 464183. Perhalps Rogue Traders can help. Hope this helps.0 -
An evil pair Barrie Meakin and Monique Tang - they will receive all they deserve.
We paid our deposit by cheque, so no chance of seeing our money again.
We received mails from Staircase Solutions and Scale Nilur (staircase manufacturer) requesting to pay the balance. Scale Nilur offered us a discount on the existing balance, plus 22% Italian VAT.
We declined, and told them we had a contract (not worth the paper written on) with SS to supply and fit, and not Scale Nilure. God knows what if the staircase didn't fit.
We have washed our hands, and refuse to throw good money after bad.
Another contact from Monique Tang in the New Year basically saying you've lost your money and the staircase, if you don't pay Scale Nilur.
I've written back and said I will report her to the Police for further trying to extort money from us, and I hope the Italians send the Cosa Nostra to their door.
Surprise, surprise, no further contact.
We have been waiting since September 2013 for a staircase, and have had to finally go elsewhere - we have contracted with another company, and all is going very well. We made detailed checks on our new engaged company, and they have given us assurances in writing, which we will hold them to if anything goes wrong. However so far so good.
I am sorry to hear about those who have been totally messed around by SS. I wouldn't pay for anything serious coming out of Italy. I don't trust them. I used to live there. Shame you can't collect it yourself, it is possible.
To recover our funds would cost us more money, and I am not going to wait 3 plus years before I see it.
