So, a low salary for my own perception is one lower than £30k, a middle earner is £45k and a high earner is £80k+
But I know that's no where near reality
This is great, this is your perception, which is what the threads about, thanks, :j.
Ok, now, you know its no where near reality.
How?0 -

, furthermore, you are misinterpreting what I am saying, which could well be my writing as I'm struggling today!
I think there could be a lot of that going on.0 -

( edit, apologies, I am trying to be polite but clear, I struggling with clarity sometimes and today is one of those days, If I appear brief its to be clear)0 -

I refuse to argue uk carper.
I note the thread is shorter than it was, so my pleas for civility is being heard. I do ask you and I both strive to maintain this.
I have apolised for my difficulty in clarity but I can do little about comprehension.
Where I feel I benefit from further development or explanation I certainly feel no shame or embarrassment in asking for it, as I have done in this thread.0 -

How?My wife's uncle is worth upwards of £10m (But he's Australian, and would rather paint your shed than eat at overly fancy restaurants), i've got a friend who's just had to get a job 'up north' because his salary in London wasn't ever going to be good enough to buy a home and start a family.. we've got family friends who struggle and work exceptionally hard to make ends meet (Yet have the classic big TV, sky sports package, Playstation4.. ect). My next door neighbough is a window cleaner and postman, yet another neighbour is a manager at KPMG... I've also worked in academia and the private sector. I also know a few people who work in the city; and rarely get to see their kids because of their silly working hours.
I also know that a vast number of people in the UK don't even work full time, let along earn a 'middle' income. I'm aware of how bad the average salary stats are, because they're missing all those people who work 'for themselves' and channel the money through a business .. drawing a much smaller income for tax purposes.
I'm fully aware it's nearly impossible to get a good view of the 'real picture'0 -
Sorry I skipped a few pages of reading and thought I just give my perception.
We live in Scotland and have a combined income of 60k (28/32 before tax). I always considered this middle earner (not rich but can save of it despite childcare cost etc.). So individual income of 30 would be middle for me. Anything under 20k per indivisual is low (I would struggle) and anything over lets say 50k is high for me (couldn't imagine having that much ever, plus at that stage you'd only need one income per family in my eyes).finally tea total but in still in (more) debt (Oct 25 CC £1800, loan £6453, mortgage £59,924/158,000)0 -
I don't think that is true as I've said I can understand that they might not think it is enough income but I'm in touch enough to what is a high salary and what is a low salary, do they not know how few people earn what they are earn.
In touch with what, then, that you can claim that you are in touch with it, but I am not?
I've lived in London on £6k a year, I've hd to choose between eating and heating, and I'm from a mining village in the North, so I honestly don't understand what you think you "get" that I don't.0 -

So my first grinning thought was are you saying you are, in some way basing your 'knowledge' on your perception?
Are you feeling your perception is 'broader' than most because of work background and cross section of society in your circle?
Apologies, I'm just trying to draw you put a little , your responses are really good because they are both thought ful and tethered ,.

Thank you thrift lass.
Can you imagine having your fifty k as a single earner household? Say, you had no partner, or one of you was unable to work? Would the fifty feel like more than your combined sixty?0 -
Yes, I do.. because I have experienced people who isolate themselves in social circles away from 'others' too, who haven't got a faintest clue of how hard life can be for some people.
On the other end; I don't know anyone who is truly poor; who is long term unemployed or has a long term disability. So i'm not fully rounded.0
