New Soakaway Drain Pipe Required - Drain Cleaning Co. or Builder Needed?

I have raised a new thread for this as it is a different question I wanted answering.

We have got to have a new soakway drain pipe put in as the existing drain appears to have been "bragged" according to Severn Trent when we had a flooding problem. There is a drainage point but nothing beneath about 6" of drainpipe. As this is causing damp on the corner of our property, we need a new pipe laying under our car port which is tarmacced and will require digging up.

Do we need a Drain Clearing Co to lay this pipe or a builder considering they will have to relay the tarmac to a good standard after the pipe has been laid?

Not sure what bragged means but assuming you just want a new soakaway and drain run I would go with a general builder / groundworker. If you need a soakaway then it will be a resonable size hole, get 2-3 local builder round and see what they suggest. I wouldn't go with a gravel / stone filled hole, if you go for a plastic crate option ask the builder for an extra cost for a silt trap so the new soakaway doesnt get clogged up with silt / debris

One of the easier DIY jobs, and more fun if your hire a mini digger.

I have just been reprimanded by my hubby, that we need a STORM pipe put in as we already have the soakaway which is doing virtually nothing as it is connected at the one end to this dead end down pipe in the ground (nothing but soil below 6 inches as I said), and nothing at the other end as it runs to a small wall, so no soakaway required, just the pipe from it to the manhole sewer drainage. So I stand corrected :o

diy or a builder then. do you know anyone who works on a construction site? its a fairly simple task except the tarmac. youll be stuck with a patch (bagged tarmac) of instant lay to keep costs sensible.
