ASUS wont repair laptop unless I provide a VAT receipt

I recently starting having trouble with my ASUS laptop, and posted to their repair department an invoice, which was my online receipt from Laptops Direct as proof of purchase.

They have replied to me this morning, stating they cannot arrange collection until I provide a VAT receipt for the purchase, and Im fairly certain I dont have such a thing.

Is this acceptable behaviour within the law of consumerism?

What should I do? Ask Laptops Direct, who I suspect are going to be ever so unhelpful, to resend me a VAT receipt for a laptop I bought several months ago?

ASUS stated, they cant repair the laptop under the factory warranty as that has since expired, but will consider a repair under the purchase warranty, providing I supply a VAT receipt to prove purchase.

Any advice very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Alternative plan ... forget about ASUS and invoke your SOGA rights with Laptops Direct. Then you don't need to worry about a VAT receipt.

It might take a little longer to get sorted - you send it to LD who send it to ASUS, who return it to LD who return it to you. But you avoid any issues with invoking the ASUS warranty.

PS - recheck the info you got from LD. If the invoice shows the price plus VAT element, and includes LD's VAT number then you have a VAT receipt.

Doesn't your receipt from Laptops Direct show the relevant VAT?

I would just do as Bod suggests.

Yes, if out of warranty you need to go via SOGA
