Washing machine packed in - 2 months old

Hi,

Just wondering if there is anything else I can do here?

I bought a washing machine 2 months ago from argos, made by Hoover. Last night the drum appears to have completely dropped during a spin (sounded like a bomb going off!).

I do not want this washer as it is clearly not very well made to develop such a fault after only 2 months. I phoned Argos who told me it must be inspected by Hoover to see if they can fix it. There is no way around this apparently. Hoover cannot even look at it for another week.

Do I have any rights under the sale of goods act to reject this as not fit for purpose and get a refund/replacement? I don't want it fixing for it to happen again.

Any advice very welcome.

Thank you

  • They can offer a remedy of repair, replacement or refund. Effectively they get to choose.

At 2 months, they will repair it I would have thought.
  • I had a washer dryer delivered by Comet. The problem was they removed the transit bolts, then dropped it down 5 huge steps!! When i got home, my friend who was working at my house told me it was delivered with no packaging or transit bolts. Got straight on phone and told Cometto pick it up and send me a replacement seen as basically potentially f**ked it up before it even made it in the house!! They refused.

A month or so later when on a spin cycle, it jumped made loud noise and released suds all over the kitchen!!! They sent an Engineer who said id got an uneven load and put too much wash powder in!!! B***ocks.

It appears in this day and age things are made to last two minutes, and thats providing they get delivered in tact in the first place.

PS NEVER buy hotpoint washers. They sound like an aeroplane taking off and if lose a key in the wash they are made so have to get an engineer out to retrieve it!!

In regard to your issues with Argos, id get on the phone to Citizen's Advice and see what they say. Personally i would like to think a washer should last for more than 2 months.
  • If the drum has come lose when it was spinning at speed, the machine is likely to be history.

Yes, it's a WDYN-D washer/drier. I would not recommend, even before it broke. I wasn't very impressed, but what can you do?? You don't know until you use it and then it is too late!
