Any chance of reclaiming PPI from 1990's?

I took out several personal loans from Midland Bank in the 1990s (each one consolidating the last - I know, I know.....) and was sold PPI for all of the them - I believe mis-sold as told it was essential and yet I had good cover/benefits from employer etc.
Anyway, I recently came across all of the loan agreements for each loan (signed by me and also bank representative; all showing that PPI was included) and so completed Martin's forms for each one and sent them off to HSBC.
I've just heard back and they've rejected the claims as they've found no evidence of the PPI and they've said that any records may have been destroyed. They've asked for 'documentation confirming the protection held' - which I think I've already given them in the loan agreements - and also for accompanying statements to confirm payments made.
I don't have bank statements going that far back to show what I paid, so does that mean I'm stuffed and should just give up?
I'm guessing it does, but thought it was worth getting some views before I give up.
Thanks

Refer them to the copies of the loan agreements you gave them. that should be sufficient to verify you had it. That will at least allow them to start reviewing your complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks for your reply - I guess I'm wondering if I can get anywhere ultimately without the bank statements to prove that I paid the PPI, even if I've got proof that I took it out?0

Hope this helps
They have one of the worst reputations going out of the claims companies out there. Plus, if you read these boards and find posts from people that have been cold called, you will find the posters allege a number of things that EMCAS say. Most of which is complete BS.
Media reports have them showing fraudulent information in complaints that have no match to what the consumer said or wanted: http://www.ifaonline.co.uk/ifaonline/news/2167503/claims-managers-pursuing-ifas-unfounded

As per above please don't use a claims company. Was your current account with the Midland when you had these loans, if so, do you still bank with HSBC, if not when was the account closed?0

Sorry to hijack this very old thread, but I have the same question, but I don't have the loan agreement forms.
I KNOW I had a loan with the then Midland Bank with PPI in the early 1990's.
I did write 2 or 3 years ago to HSBC about the PPI-they stated they had no record.
I still bank with HSBC-same account number, I have no proof, no bank statements-nothing.
Is it a lost cause?
Thank you:j0 -

If HSBC have no record and you have no record then its game over. If you think HSBC may have a record but havent looked hard enough then you can pay £10 and do a data subject access request. It may throw up some more info.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Is this requesting all data held by HSBC on me? How far would this go back?
How do I go about this? Is it through the ICO?
Thank you for replying:beer::j0 -

it is all data that HSBC currently hold on you. It wont include things that have been destroyed over the years. How do I go about this? Is it through the ICO?
Ask HSBC but usually its a case of sending a £10 cheque to the bank and asking them to carry out a data subject access request.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
