Why do some furniture stores take all day to deliver and some don't?

Anyone else hear on Radio 4 yesterday that an MP is campaigning for better treatment from delivery to homes?

You all know what I'm talking about; you wait in all day for the sofa/gas man/electrician and then get a call at 4pm saying they won't be able to come until next week. You've taken a day off work which had to go down as holiday and you've no garentee that the next time they'll be on time!

Then you get some companies who can give you a 2 hour window and actually turn up and deliver. Why the difference?

I have actually invoced companies for a days wages for no shows before now.

PC World once failed to collect a laptop for repair when promised. I wrote to the CEO of DSG who own them and the CEO of PC world personally wrote and apologised, and arranged for a cheque to be sent to be for the full amount.

I find by doing this that it focuses the company on taking you seriously, it sometimes results in a cheque landing on your doorstep, and most of the time the second delivery occurs promptly and when promised.

A letter asking for payment for wasted time IMO gets far more attention than a normal letter of complaint.

  • Thats a great idea, will try it. I just wish we didn't have to nag others to be treated with respect, like turning up on time!
