Solicitors ID Checks

A solicitor in a different area will be acting for me in some conveyancing, and have asked me to bring various ID documents to their office for the usual ID check.
Is there another way this check can be fulfilled, without me actually going there? It's quite a way and expensive, and I wouldn't have the opportunity for about another month.

The solicitor may insist on visually comparing the ID photo with the OP's face!Gordon_Hose wrote: »Send via recorded/special delivery or courier?
A local solicitor will certify your ID for £10 - £20 and that should satisfy your conveyancing solicior.
If you have a frinedly bank anager or IFA, they may do it for free and this may satisfy the conveyancing solicior, but check first.0 -
We never met our solicitor face to face until we went in and signed the contracts lol0

Can you use a local solicitor? It is quite normal for them ask documents to verify your identity e.g. passports etc. I was not happy sending my original documents over post so used a local solicitor instead.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

I may use a local solicitor instead, as it's all starting to seem rather troublesome. I've left a message with the non-local solicitor asking them to call me back to explain the options, but no response so far, so not overly impressed with them anyway.0

We used a non-local solicitor, we had to get certified copies done of our ID documents (Post Office will do this for free - they compare the copy to the original and your face to confirm it is you), then sent them recorded delivery.0

I'd recommend a local solicitor. There will be other documents to send back during the process - source of deposit forms, proof of deposit, contracts, proof of buildings insurance etc etc. You'll save on postage by just being able to drop in to the office.0

Ask your own solicitor if they have any alternative options for you. Ours did electronic checks using credit reference agencies, and then we had to send a scanned copy of our passports and driving licences in addition.0
