My letter "T" won't work

Okay guys, mad as it sounds but the T on my keyboard for my laptop is sticking and will only work when I hit it hard. This is making typing pretty hard obviously so I was wondering if anyone knew what I can do about it?

Couldn't have been the letter Q could it?

Well, if your laptop is still on warranty get a hold of the manufacturer. I know Dell (even in darkest South Africa) will send someone to your house next day and replace your keyboard panel free of charge if under warranty. And it takes them 5 minutes.

Otherwise, you may need to take it in for repairs. Laptop keybaords are fiddly beasts to try and clean and stucky keys are a pain.

An alternative is that most laptops allow you to plug in an external keybaord, so maybe try that. Had a 5 year old laptop with a keyboard that stopped working COMPLETELY so used to use another I just plugged into the back.

I had this with my shift key not so long ago, I think something had been spilt down there or something, I just took the key off and cleaned it with a cotton wool bud with the tinest bit of aftershave on, stuck it back on and it works fine now.

Could you have a bit of food stook down there or anything?

Well I've had a look down the keyboard and it looks pretty dusty. But I'm at a loss to why it's only the one key! Every now and then it's fine.

I'll give it a clean and hope for the best, if not I'll have to get my dad to replace my keyboard - he's been wanting to fiddle with this for a while so he'll be happy!

Now to find a cotton wool bud!

  • I would take it off and have a clean about underneath as well. No point in buying a new one when it is not needed.
