Camcorder Problems

Hello - can anyone help shed light on my problem please.
I recently purchased a Sony DV HC37 Camcorder and along with this a firewire card, cable and Ulead Software so I could download the tapes to my PC and hence burn them onto a DVD for prosperity and safekeeping!!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the Ulead (Video Studio 8) software to work but the bundled Sony software which came with the camera allows the picture to be displayed on my PC monitor losslessly at the same time as my camcorder (so I assume the firewire is working). I have then tried to capture the video and it saves a file to my harddrive but I cannot view this file using the Sony software.
I've tried also viewing it with Window Media Player 11 and I get sound but no pictures.
Am I missing something?
Cheers.

Have you tried it with Windows Movie Maker?
You could try capturing a chunk of video in DVAVI format, Windows Media player should be able to display this.
I think the latest Ulead Video Studio is Version 11.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
You may be missing the correct codec.
You can use Mediainfo to find it; http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
You can trial Nero 7's Nero Vision 4 to create your DVDs; http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-demo.php0
