can kitchen worktops be re covered?

Just wondering if its possible to have existing kitchen worktops re-covered as opposed to completey changed?

seems it can be done but mine have curved / rolled fronts which may be an issue.
Can anyone shed any light on entirely replacing an L shaped worktop mitred in the middle in terms of difficulty?:j0 -
Over tears I've painted workgroups , wasn't very successful but brightened up kitchen for while, I garnished about 8 times!!!!
