Is there a general rule as to how long after cancelling a card you can apply for a new one with the same company to get the benefit of balance transfer offers?
I am specifically looking at Barclaycard and Sainsburys.
Thanks

Not a general rule as such but typical times per provider are shown at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/cancel-unused-cards#when0

It's always worth checking direct with the company. On the link above MSE state Halifax is 30 days when it is actually 60 days, a considerable difference in time scale and was changed in September 2013, so the information MSE provide is not always up-to-date.0
