After 9 years it seems to make zero difference how many years you have. Stick 9 or 37 in the quotes and it makes zero difference.

On the comparison sites anoything over 7 seems to be a waste.

If you have an incident and lose 2 years of your no claims you drop back to 3 whether yo had 5, 9 or 37 years no claims.

What happens if a claim is made varies between insurers. For my current policy, a single claim reduces the number of years NCD by two years for a pre-existing 2-6 years NCD, and for 7 or more years previous NCD it is reduced to (not by) 4 years.

I must be the exception then......:(
  • I have 15 years no claims. This makes a big difference with some insurers but not with others.

They way to maintain a no claims number is if the renewal document only states a maximum get the insurer to write confirming the NCD you had when you joined them and that you have not made any claims in the years you have been with them. This is accepted as proof of longer no claims, renewal notices won't be.
