hi, i have a 3 bed semi, ive got awful problems with condensation in my back porch area. the whole house is double glazed throughout but the problem lies in the fact that the main part of the house is cavity wall with insulation. the porch area isnt and it has been constructed with a single brick construction with plaster on top, therefore you see my problem with condensation, all the heat from the main part of the house is being drawn to this cold area and condensing.
adding a radiator is not an option. neither is knocking out the plaster and creating a stud wall with insulation as the area is small and is only the width of the back door and approximately 1m long. i have already fitted a door liner and internal door to try and block the area off and this has made no difference, so im stumped
any ideas?
thankyou

Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

You could also run a small low powered heater in there just to take chill off or use a dehumidifier

DS tried this idea recently in his flat with two of my vintage flowerpotsbut claimed he had no joy......maybe he just fancied pinching my pots, lol! Not sure if others have had success with this though......

If the porch is only single skin, it probably isn't designed to be part of the habitable (and heated) house and should have an external type door between it and the house.
This will prevent heat wastage through it and also moisture coming out of the house and condensing in the porch.

This is good advice. You need to insulate the porch area from the rest of the house- a typical interior door just isn't good enough. If desperate, consider curtains etc over the door as well.0 -

Yes, I think either it should be insulated to roughly the same standard as the rest of the house and treated (heated etc) as part of the house or if that is not possible it needs to be treated as an separate unheated space behind an exterior door.
Having it as something in between is just going to cause heat loss and condensation.
