Wooden work tops, repair or replace?

Hi there
We have solid beech work tops and I have not been looking after them properly. The one by the sink looks like it needs replacing to me. It's starting to sludge where the wood meets the sink.
My question is should I bite the bullet and replace it or will I be able to get someone in to sand it down and treat it etc? It's only just started to sludge up. Loathed to do too much to the kitchen as want to replace it in around 18 months.
Thanks

If you have fungi/mould (sludge) around the sink its past the stage where sanding will do any good.
No amount of sanding will bring the colour back I'm afraid. Beech is one of the worse timbers for kitchen worktops purely for the problem you have. The moment you start getting black marks/streeks then sanding is fruitless.
Of all the timbers used for making kitchen worktops Beech is the least durable.0 -
Leveller is spot on. If it has the dreaded black mould, it is shot.
Replace, unfortunately.0
