New 2014 Nissan Quashqai 1.2 engine qustion
I'm looking at maybe getting the new 2014 Quashqai .Ive been in and discussed options with dealer and they recommend the 1.5 diesel engine but I only do 6k miles a year so I think the 1.2 petrol would be more suited for my needs .My main concern is that its only a 1.2 in a biggish car .Do you think this is to under powered or are modern engines that much better these days .
I will be having a test drive in a few weeks time so I will get a better idea .Any thoughts or anyone else considering this option ?

It's a 1.2 with a turbo which according to Parkers has more power and torque than the outgoing 1.6 petrol.
Your best bet is to read a few reviews, particularly on owners clubs where people have bought this model.0 -

My wife has got a Golf with a 1.4 which also has a turbo and shifts along very briskly enough, I would imagine a turbo charged 1.2 would be okay although depends on driving style and what you call fast.
I would wait for the test drive and make sure that you get to drive on a few different roads and at speed to see how it feels for you. If you don't like it don't be afraid to say no thanks.
For low mileage I would definitely go for petrol."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
When I used to have a Qashqai, I found this site very useful for info:http://forum.qashqaiclub.co.uk/forums.html0

I'd be wary of a diesel for that mileage, and IMO, the salesman should know better - unless you're able to do the correct 'sort' of diving, I'd expect you to have dpf issues if you go for a diesel and do low miles.0

Could the diesel be more expensive, Hence the salesman wanting to sell it over a petrol? The VW 1.2Tsi gets excellent reviews in terms of performance, particularly round town, probably a little underpowered for extended motrway use, but no reason a Nissan/Renault unit would be much different.0

These little engines are quite powerful, they put a 1.0 3 cylinder in the Focus and C Max which produces 125 BHP, 25% more than the old 1.6.0

Thanks for the replies .When I get round to testing it I shall come back and let you Know my thoughts .0

I used a 1.2Tsi Skoda Yeti, a similar car to a Qashqai, for a month in Australia and found it surprisingly powerful. It was good around town and no hardship on motorways.
The other benefit of a petrol is the lack of engine noise.0
