Currys problem with refund/credit voucher

In November 2013 I purchased a NOW TV box. I was told by the salesman (in Milton Keynes) it would work with certain channels. I questioned this as it was not listed on the box, but he told me it was an old box, it will do what I wanted it to do - You Tube, ITV player etc.

Well it wouldn't do what I was told. I phoned the help desk and eventually the manager at MK rang me to say I could return it.

Unfortunately I was taken very seriously ill shortly after that with major heart problems and by all accounts I am lucky to be here now!

Having felt a lot better I contacted the help desk again and after a long wait I was told today

I am sorry to learn about the problems you have been having with the now tv box you purchased from ourselves, in regards to this I can advise that we would not be to offer you a refund or a voucher for this item.

I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

I told them I have not found my receipt but I do have previous tweets from Currys so they do know I actually bought it from them.

Do I have a case?

By the way I am not asking for a refund, a credit note would be good to put towards a more expensive item in the store.

Thanks

Chris

Proof of purchase required, tweets are not.

But the Currys/PcWorld systems are advanced, so if you know exactly when you purchased it, as in within a few days then they can find it on their system.

Your best bet is remembering the person you spoke to in MK and goback and hopes he remembers, also phone the Helpdesk and see if they took a note of the call.

These boxes are only £10. You will have gone beyond the 28 days they allow.

The box was actually £24.95. Anyway the actual cost is irrelevant.

OK but you have no receipt and you failed to return it within 28 days and you can get one from here (for £9.99):-

I bet it was, and it's good you're still around to post this. Unfortunately you'd be deemed to have accepted the box as you didn't return it in a reasonable time period after purchase.

Have you been back to the shop in MK - as the staff member there made the initial mistake and the manager was prepared to help you when you spoke to him previously this might be your best bet. Hopefully you will get a better outcome with a face to face discussion than the 'computer says no' that often seems to prevail with call centres.

I hope that you weren't treated at MK General or you really have had a lucky escape - they have nearly killed my husband twice!
